Scientist - Disease Modeling

NeuCyte, Inc. – Mountain View, CA

Contact info: careers@neucyte.com

Who we are:

NeuCyte is an early stage biotechnology company that focuses on developing treatments for those suffering from neurological and neurodegenerative disorders. We develop translatable cell-based assays for modeling neuro-related disorders using patient-derived and genetically engineered neural cell types to discover novel therapeutics. Based on our SynFire® technology, our proprietary human neural in vitro platforms assess complex electrophysiological and morphological readouts suited for target identification and validation, as well as drug efficacy testing.

What we're looking for:

NeuCyte is seeking a highly motivated Scientist / Senior Scientist to join our team. In this role, the successful candidate will apply their expertise in iPSC-derived disease modeling to develop human stem cell-based in vitro models of neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will employ these models for phenotypic assay development and drug screening efforts for drug discovery. This position requires a strong background in iPSC cell culture, disease modeling, and phenotypic assay development.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintenance of patient iPSC and neuronal cell cultures for molecular biology experiments, high-content imaging, and functional assays

  • Participate in/Lead the design and implementation of cell-based assays

  • Develop iPSC-derived disease models (2D & 3D) for phenotype extraction and drug discovery/screening for NeuCyte disease programs

  • Perform high-content imaging for phenotypic drug screening using both high-throughput and live cell imaging platforms; develop automated image analysis pipelines; support the general needs around imaging and microscopy

  • Participate in the design and implementation of QA and QC assay criteria

  • Keep up with the technology of the field, review relevant literature, and evaluate systems and analysis solutions

  • Prepare SOPs and train/supervise technical staff to assist with assays as needed

  • Write project reports, present projects at internal and external meetings

  • Work together with the team to maintain instruments, interact with service partners and instrument manufacturers

Required

  • PhD with 3-5 years of iPSC experience, preferably in fast-paced lab environment, with a strong neuroscience background

  • Hands-on experience with iPSC culturing and multi-lineage differentiation of CNS cell types i.e., neurons, astrocytes, microglia, or brain microvascular endothelial cells

  • Previous neurodegenerative disease modeling (ALS, FTD, Parkinson’s Disease, or Alzheimer’s Disease) including co-culture in 2D and 3D using complex systems such as brain assembloids/organoids

  • Experience with phenotypic assay development and data interpretation

  • Proficiency in the use of high-content imaging systems and related data analysis software

  • Basic genomics knowledge

  • Ability to multi-task and participate/lead multiple projects simultaneously

  • Clear written and oral communication and detailed documentation skills

Preferred:

  • Experience in high-throughput drug screening

  • Experience with microfluidics

  • Experience with bioinformatics analysis

  • Experience with human iPSC-derived neuron electrophysiology

  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry assays such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR, plasmid construction, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.

  • Basic computer programming skills for data processing

Compensation:

  •  Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience
