Scientist / Senior Scientist – Preclinical Epilepsy Program

Who we are:

NeuCyte is a preclinical stage biotechnology company that focuses on developing treatments for those suffering from neurological and neurodegenerative disorders. We develop translatable cell-based assays for modelling neuro-related disorders using patient-derived and genetically engineered neural cells to discover and develop novel therapeutics. Based on our SynFire® technology, our proprietary human neural in vitro platforms assess complex electrophysiological and morphological readouts suited for target identification and validation, as well as drug efficacy testing.

What we’re looking for:

For our flagship program around development of antiepileptic drugs, NeuCyte is seeking a highly motivated Scientist or Senior Scientist. You have a strong background in the neurophysiology of epileptic seizures, electrophysiological techniques, and pre-clinical models for discovery of anticonvulsant therapeutics. You are excited about building a preclinical stage drug discovery platform for epilepsy that is based on stem cell-derived human in vitro neuronal models and integrates technology including multi-electrode arrays and calcium imaging. You want to be part of a high-energy biotech environment to develop novel therapies for epilepsy patients.

What you’ll do:

• Lead and develop NeuCyte’s early discovery platform for epilepsy 

• Develop a vision and the research strategy around in vitro epilepsy models based on our iPSC-derived human neuronal cultures

• Coordinate and manage drug screening, compound optimization, and assay development together with our drug development team and experts of our technology platforms

• Interact with academic leaders and collaborators in the epilepsy field

• Present at conferences and in meetings with collaborators

• Manage CROs and partnerships on epilepsy-related projects

• Interact across teams and technologies to advance our epilepsy program and support IND studies with relevant data

 

Required:

• PhD degree and 5+ years of relevant experience in academia or industry

• Technical expertise in electrophysiological methods, calcium imaging, EEG recordings or similar

• Strong expertise the neurophysiology of epilepsy and relevant preclinical models 

• Strong organizational skills, detailed planning, proactive communication, meticulous documentation

• Excitement about working in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving biotech program with a strong drive to deliver therapies for patients in need 
   

Preferred:

• Experience with human stem cells and human neuronal cultures

• Experience with working in a multidisciplinary environment including chemists, biologists, data scientists 

• Basic programming skills and expertise with analysis of electrophysiology data or similar
